其實，航空公司對於壓低飛行成本一直都很有興趣。早在 2012 年，歐洲最大廉價航空公司瑞安航空（Ryan Air）的執行長歐萊利（Michael O'Leary）就曾提出過「站票」的概念。他構想在波音 737-800 型飛機上安裝半站立座椅搭配傳統座椅，以增加載客量。然而，目前還沒有航空公司正式宣布採用這樣的計畫。
所謂的站票，其實是一種可以折疊的垂直座椅，就像在電影院裡的座椅，坐下時放下，離開時自動彈起。這個點子最早是由飛機製造商空中巴士提出的。之所以有站票的構想，主要是因為在短程航班上，乘客對機上娛樂、零食或座椅舒適度的需求並不高，因此航空公司希望盡可能降低成本。
雖然美國聯邦航空管理局（FAA）並沒有強制規定乘客在飛行途中必須坐下，但關於這種垂直座椅的安全性仍存在很多疑慮，因此到目前為止，還沒有任何國家允許真正的飛機站票。

Airlines also make money by charging for seat selection, luggage, meals, and other services. Using cabin space effectively has become one of the most important ways for airlines to make a profit.
